Pablo García Mexía takes part in the 28th Annual Meeting of the Spanish Group SPP/ICA

On 27 May, Pablo García Mexía took part in the 28th Annual Meeting of the Spanish Group of the Section on Archives and Archivists of Parliaments and Political Parties of the International Council on Archives —SPP/ICA—, held at the Junta General del Principado de Asturias.

As part of the opening day, he delivered a presentation entitled “Guidelines for the Use of AI in the Senate. General Approach and Main Challenges”, focused on the responsible incorporation of artificial intelligence in the parliamentary sphere.

During his presentation, he addressed some of the main legal, organisational and documentary challenges raised by the use of artificial intelligence systems in public institutions, with particular attention to the need for clear criteria on governance, legal certainty and human oversight.

The meeting brought together archivists and records management professionals from various Spanish parliaments, as well as specialists involved in parliamentary archives, documentary preservation, institutional transparency and the new challenges arising from digital transformation.

Pablo García Mexía’s participation formed part of a day especially devoted to artificial intelligence and the role of parliamentary archives in the face of new technologies, underlining the importance of preserving institutional memory and ensuring a responsible use of technological innovation in the public sector.
