Pablo García Mexía Analyzes the Impact of the AI Act on Boards of Directors at “Board Wednesdays”

On March 25, 2026, Pablo García Mexía served as a speaker at a new session of “Board Wednesdays,” a webinar aimed at boards of directors and senior management, focusing on the challenges posed by artificial intelligence regulation.

The session, hosted by Pablo Blanco and organized by aesYc (Spanish Alliance for Security and Crisis), together with ISACA Madrid Chapter and CBNK Banco, provided an in-depth examination of the role of governing bodies in light of the AI Act’s entry into force.

During his presentation, Dr. García Mexía emphasized that the regulation of Artificial Intelligence cannot be considered a purely technical or delegable matter, but rather a direct responsibility of the Board regarding oversight, due diligence, and effective governance. In this regard, he underscored the need for board members to take an active role in understanding, assessing, and anticipating the risks associated with the use of AI systems.

Throughout the session, fundamental aspects of corporate governance were addressed from a practical perspective, including:

• The non-delegable responsibilities of the Board regarding Artificial Intelligence.

• The control, evaluation, and reporting systems that must be required.

• The main regulatory risks arising from the AI Act and their impact on strategy and reputation.

• Decision-making in the face of high-risk systems.

• The tools needed to ensure effective and documented oversight.

The meeting highlighted that, in the current context, it is no longer enough to simply receive information about the use of AI in organizations; rather, it is essential to understand, question, and anticipate its impact at the highest levels of governance.
