On March 10, Pablo García Mexía participated in the international conference “Earthquakes in Parliament: AI in Parliamentary Procedures,” organized by the Institute of Parliamentary Law and the Università degli Studi di Catania.
The event, held at the Complutense University of Madrid’s School of Law in a hybrid format, brought together national and international experts to analyze the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the functioning of parliamentary institutions.
The conference featured the participation of legal experts from the Italian Chamber of Deputies and Senate, representatives from various Spanish parliaments—including the Spanish Parliament, the Basque Parliament, and the General Assembly of the Principality of Asturias—as well as prominent academics from Italy and Spain.
During the session, both the theoretical foundations and the practical applications of Artificial Intelligence in the parliamentary sphere were addressed. Likewise, the compatibility of these technologies with representative democracy was analyzed from a constitutional perspective, with special attention paid to the necessary control and oversight mechanisms.
