First Conference on Artificial Intelligence in the Senate: Practical Applications in Parliamentary Knowledge Management

On February 27, the Spanish Senate hosted the First Conference on Artificial Intelligence, a professional gathering aimed at civil servants specializing in libraries, archives, and documentation services within regional parliaments. The conference focused on the professional uses of AI applied to parliamentary knowledge management and on sharing experiences, projects, and best practices developed in various institutional settings.

The event’s objective was to analyze how artificial intelligence, now widely used, can contribute to improving the quality of legislative work, strengthening rights and freedoms, and achieving more informed and effective representation, always from a responsible and ethical perspective.

Under the theme “Artificial Intelligence in Parliaments: Practical Applications for Knowledge Management”, the conference provided an institutional framework of reference in the field of documentation, fostering the exchange of knowledge and technical cooperation among the various legislative chambers.

The program had a distinctly practical focus, based on real-world experiences and the latest developments in the implementation of AI solutions in parliamentary settings. Speakers included representatives from the Senate, the parliaments representatives from the autonomous communities and national and international experts in parliamentary documentation, information technology, and innovation applied to the public sector.

During the session, it was emphasized that democracy is not protected by ignoring innovation, but rather by using it responsibly and with institutional ambition. The event provided a forum for reflection and debate on how to integrate artificial intelligence into parliamentary management in an effective and secure manner.
